Ad Valorem's Morton's Fork all class at Rosehill

Now plying his trade at Cangon Stud, ex Darley stallion Ad Valorem (USA) looks to have a contender for the big 3yo spring features with Godolphin’s honest colt Morton's Fork who overcame a slow start for a highly impressive victory in Saturday’s Hyland Race Colours Handicap (1400m) at Rosehill.

Ridden by Brenton Avdulla for trainer John O’Shea, Morton's Fork rattled home to defeat Harper's Choice (Street Cry) by half a length with Godolphin's other runner Fanfaron (Helmet) the same distance back in third. (photos Steve Hart).

"It was a great little win, I think off that he'll probably get a bit further," O'Shea said.

"A lot of credit must go to Brenton, he's a very confident young man at the moment.

"We trust whatever decisions our jockeys make and it was a really good ride by Brenton. He's been a wonderful addition to us while James has been away."

A model of consistency, Morton's Fork advances his overall record to 2 wins and 3 seconds from 5 starts with earnings of $187,750.

The son of Ad Valorem (USA) is a three-quarter brother to the talented Pied A Terre who won four of his 9 starts in Australia highlighted by the Group II Autumn Stakes and was runner-up in the Group II Blamey Stakes won by Green Moon and the Listed Hawkesbury Guineas won by Free Wheeling.

Morton’s Fork is the second foal of the Lonhro mare Dilemmas who failed to win in five starts. Like Ad Valorem (USA) she also received her marching orders from Darley who sold her to Dalama Holdings for $10,000 at the 2014 Inglis Easter Broodmare sale.

Dilemmas is a granddaughter of the top-class Shavano Miss a 5-time stakes-winner including a pair of Group II’s.

The daughter of Lonhro has a weanling filly by Hinchinbrook and was covered by Uncle Mo (USA) last spring.

A Calumet Farm-bred son of Danzig, dual Group 1 winner Ad Valorem (USA) stands at Cangon Stud at a fee of $4,400 (inc. GST), alongside Choistar$3,300 (inc.GST) and Dubleo $4,400 (inc. GST), all of which can be viewed in Cangon Stud's 2016 Stallion Brochure
