Impressive Caulfield Winner For Ad Valorem

Trainer Cameron Templeton recorded one of the biggest wins of his training career when talented sprinter Saint Valorem came from last to win the $60,000 Jason Hart Handicap(1100m) at Caulfield.

The victory was the 40-year-old horseman’s first at Caulfield, his third at metropolitan level since he began training nearly ten years ago and his biggest in terms of prize money since he won the 2014 Pakenham Cup with Captain Fancypantz.

Despite Saint Valorem’s first-up defeat at Sandown, Templeton said he went into the race confident the lightly-raced four-year-old could maintain his unbeaten second-up record.

“It was a race I’d earmarked for him,” Templeton said. “The owners were a bit disappointed the other day but I said we were on track for second up and I’m glad he proved me right.

“It was a huge win but he’s been a bit unlucky because he’s been beaten by some good horses like Ability that have gone on.

“I’ve always rated him even though he’s unfashionably bred (by Ad Valorem) and is only little but he’s got a big ticker and he tries hard.”

After settling last for jockey Brian Higgins, Saint Valorem ($9) swept home down the outside to defeat Tango Rock ($11) by a neck, with Certain Ellie ($51) a further 1.5 lengths away in third.

The win continued a solid run of form for jockey Higgins, who has won five metropolitan races in the 2016-17 season, three of which have come in the month of July.

Sire of 14 stakes winners incluing this season's Group 1 JJ Atkins winner Capital Gain, Ad Valorem is standing the upcoming breeding season at Cangon Stud Farm for $4,400 (inc. GST). For further infroamtion contact Jock Mackay on 0417 674 885 or click here to head to our Contacts page.
